The LRS staff screens over 15,000 telephone and Internet requests each year, referring over 3,000 Virginia residents and businesses to Fairfax County attorneys.

The LRS offers two important services to the public:

·         We help you determine whether the problem is truly of a legal nature or whether another service agency would be more appropriate;

·         We provide you with an unbiased referral to an attorney who has experience in the area of law appropriate to your needs.

During a thirty-minute consultation, the attorney will evaluate your legal situation and advise you about your options. Further legal services, if necessary, should be discussed with the attorney and additional attorney's fees agreed upon before you proceed with any additional legal work. Note that attorneys may charge either a flat fee or by the hour and they may also require a retainer or advance payment from which their hourly fee is subtracted. In certain circumstances, an attorney may agree to charge contingency fees whereby the attorney receives fees only when money is collected for you. Make sure you understand both the attorney's method of charging fees and his/her billing procedures.

A fee of $40.00 is charged for a consultation lasting up to one half-hour. Please be aware that additional fees at the attorney's normal hourly rates may be charged by the attorney if the consultation exceeds the one-half hour time period. The consultation fee is to be pre-paid directly to the referral service. For your convenience, you may charge the consultation fee on Visa or Master Card. Please note that the consultation fee is non-refundable.

The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a non-profit public service of the Fairfax Bar Association and meets the American Bar Association standard for lawyer referral services.

The LRS program was designed to assist those who are able to pay normal attorney fees but whose ability to locate legal representation is frustrated by lack of experience with the legal system, a lack of information about the type of services needed or a fear of the potential costs of seeing an attorney.

Legal problems can prove to be costly and time consuming if you lack guidance of trained professionals.  We have been helping clients find and obtain appropriate legal representation for over thirty years.
